About My Car Has Issues

Why we built this site

We have all been there — you are driving along and suddenly a light appears on your dashboard that you have never seen before. Or your car starts making a strange noise and you have no idea what it means. Is it serious? Can you still drive? Should you pull over right now?

For most of us, the first instinct is to Google it. But the answers you find are often written for mechanics, full of jargon, and not very helpful when you are sat in a car park feeling worried.

My Car Has Issues was created to fill that gap. We explain common car warning signs in plain, everyday language — no technical jargon, no confusing abbreviations, just the information you need to understand what is happening and what to do next.

What we cover

  • Dashboard warning lights — what each light means, how urgent it is, and whether it is safe to keep driving
  • Common car noises — what that sound could be, possible causes, and whether you should worry
  • Handy tips — simple step-by-step guides for basic car checks that anyone can do, like checking oil or topping up washer fluid

Who this site is for

This site is for anyone who drives a car but does not consider themselves “a car person”. You do not need to know how an engine works to use this site — we write everything as if we are explaining it to a friend.

We are especially mindful that you might be reading this on your phone, parked up at the side of the road, feeling anxious. That is why we keep our advice clear, calming, and to the point.

Important disclaimer

Everything on this site is general information only. It is not professional automotive advice and should not be treated as such. Dashboard lights and noises can mean different things on different vehicles, and the only way to know for certain what is wrong with your car is to have it inspected by a qualified mechanic.

If you are ever unsure whether it is safe to drive, the safest option is always to stop and call for professional help.
