Alternator Warning

See a Mechanic Soon — Urgency 4/5
Can I still drive? — We recommend you do not drive

Do not plan to drive far. Head straight to the nearest garage or safe place to stop, then arrange a tow or repair. If the car starts showing signs of losing power (dim lights, heavy steering), pull over immediately. This is general information — always follow professional advice for your vehicle.

This is general guidance. Your situation may differ — when in doubt, don’t drive.

What does this mean?

The alternator is the part that charges your battery while the engine is running. If it fails, your battery will drain and your car will eventually stop — the engine, power steering, and brakes could all be affected. Some cars show this as the same battery light, others have a separate alternator indicator.

What should I do right now?

Get to a mechanic as quickly and safely as you can. Switch off everything electrical that you do not absolutely need. If you notice your headlights dimming, your dashboard flickering, or your power steering feeling heavy, pull over immediately — your battery is nearly flat.
